Rotella is a small village in the province of Ascoli Piceno and is located in the inland of the Marche region, on the slopes of Mount Ascensione, where the Oste stream joins the Tesino River. About halfway between the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini Mountains, this area is characterized by a purely agricultural economy.
It differs from surrounding areas for a significant variation in temperature between day and night. This is not due to the altitude (395 metres a.s.l.) but to the influence of Mount Ascensione: based on the principle of “temperature inversion”, cooler air – which is at the top of the mountain during the day – moves down the slopes during the night because of its higher density. As a result, the night temperature of lands in close proximity to the mountain is considerably lower than the day temperature; this favours the accumulation of terpenes and thiols, which are aroma precursors.
Our wines are shaped by this particular microclimate, which makes them one of a kind and, therefore, they distinguish themselves through their intense bouquet.
The vineyards of our farm lie between the municipalities of Rotella, Montedinove and Offida.
The varieties grown, both native and foreign, are numerous. Passerina and Pecorino are the most important varieties of our estate, and also the most renowned and appreciated among the whites, while Sangiovese and Montepulciano are their counterpart among the reds.
However, we believe that the research of quality cannot be limited to native varieties; for this reason, we devote ourselves not only to international varieties like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon but also to less renowned ones, as for example Incrocio Manzoni.
Aware that the peculiarity and richness of a territory find multiple expressions in the different varieties, we are planning to plant new vineyards over the next few years.
